Genesis 1:3-5
Topic: Genesis

And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.  And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.

Beginning verse 3, we began to see series of God’s commands to create the earth. This is the first of a highly structured series of succinct and formulaic sentences expressing the creative commands of God. Thus, Creation is accomplished by His word. Each command consists of

1) an announcement, “God said”

2) a creative command, “Let there be”

3) a summary word of accomplishment, “And it was so”

4) a descriptive word of accomplishment, “The earth brought forth”;

5) a descriptive blessing, “God blessed”

6) an evaluative approval, “It was good”

7) a concluding temporal framework, numbering each day.

John 1:1 referred to us that there was the Word (logo) before anything existed on the earth.

We also note that God created the source of light. This light didn’t come from the sun. Revelation tells us that God is the source of light. But in vv. 4-5, God divided the light from the darkess, which it indicated the earth passed through a 24-hour cycle. Unlike today’s clock system, the new day began at 6:00 PM until 5:59 PM. This clock system is specified the timing of our Lord’s death and resurrection.

Studying the Book of Genesis is very important to understand how the earth was original started before everything was twisted by the religious group. he word, good, contains less an aesthetic judgment than a designation of purpose and correspondence to God’s will, indicating the moral goodness of the Creation.
