Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? (Matthew 16:24-26 KJV)
Being a follower of Christ may seems to be challenged, but it is worth it for our eternal life. There is no person on the earth who denied himself than Jesus. He suffered for our sins by facing the death penalty on the cross by Roman soldiers. Even though most of His people laughed at Him, Jesus died for the sins of the world. Paul said in Philippians 2:5-8, "Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross."
Why Jesus suffered for us? Even though He can call His angels, He demonstrated His love for us by taking an action that no one able can do for his friends. God doesn't want us to become religious, but relationship.
