Living a Healthy Godly Life
Topic: Health

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. (Philippians 4:8 KJV)

Throughout the Bible, God gave us the best advice or cure for our sickness of our physical and spiritual bodies. Even though there are many medicines in the world, there is only one person who can bring healing in our bodies. That is Jesus Christ.

Most of our sicknesses come from our self-focus and nothing to do with our relationship with God and people. We don’t see many healing in the church today because it’s all about me, myself and I. It’s just about how we can get blessing from God than how we can bless God. There are too many preachers today who teach on these things. I read several articles on exposing today’s preachers and found that the most mega church preachers teach on the feel good gospel messages because of money. Their messages are not about how we can have strong relationship with God and people in the community. For example, Joel Osteen always have smile and brings a feel-good message on the telecast. There is nothing wrong with feel-good message, but there is no discernment to protect ourselves from sinning against God. Paul said in II Timothy 4:-3-4, “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.” We need to protect ourselves from our own lust. If not, our relationship with God would be useless.

Romans 8:7 said that “the carnal mind is enmity against God.” While we are living in this world, we are dealing with the things of this world provides us versus things in God’s kingdom. We may have some strongholds that pull ourselves away from God, such as work, family, football game, and etc. Even though these are not making us to sin, we put these items as our priorities than our time with God. For example, some people may stay in home to watch some Sunday football games than to be with God’s family. If watching some sport games are important to you, then how much God would miss you at the church. Going to the church service is not about joining religious service as tradition Baptist worship service. But it’s about spending our times with God and our brothers and sisters in the body of Christ. Apostle Paul said that we “are the body of Christ, and members in particular (I Corinthians 12:27).”

Paul said in I Timothy 4:8, “For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.” We are being in good physical shape helps little bit. If we want to be 100 percent healthy, we need more than just eating, exercising, and being active. We also need to feed our spiritual bodies by spending the time with God through reading His Words, praying, worshipping, and praising. The word “worship” is just not about raising hands during the praise and worship portion of the service. It is a word that we are honoring God. “In the New Testament the Greek verb proskuneoµ means to kneel or prostrate oneself in honor or supplication of a human being, or to do this in worship of God (King James Bible Word Book).” Anybody can’t receive this kind of honor, except God. But God blesses us when we do our parts.

I don’t recommend Eastern Mysticism type of exercise, such as Yoga. Even though it is a good way to relax our bodies, we would bring other spirits into our systems that pull us away from God. It is an ancient Hindu practice. Although the most today’s teachers may say that it’s modernized that would not effect Hindu practice, it’s still teaching us how to improve our self-images than relying God.

God planned to send His Son, Jesus Christ, to us to pay our sins, so we can have free access to God and develop personal relationship with Him. Would you like to have personal relationship with God? If you’d like to know Jesus Christ as your personal Savior, I’d like to encourage you to do two simple things. First, confess your sins and invite Jesus Christ to your life. Paul said in Romans 10:9-11, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” There is no sinner prayer formula. Instead, you just talk to God at where you are now. Secondly, I’d like to encourage you to find a good solid biblical teaching church and Christian friends. They can help you to build strong relationship with God.
